Ron Daugherty doesn't mess with the flip.

No sir.

"I throw a one-and-three-quarters, world-class turn," he says, gripping a horseshoe between the thumb and first two fingers of his gnarled right hand. "Wouldn't look at a flip."

Daugherty bends his left knee, shimmies his back and then arches forward to release the horseshoe. It sails on a flat trajectory through the air, turning the required 1 3/4 times, before it hooks the peg 40 feet away with a sweet clang.
