TEMPLETON, Calif. -- Jerry Quarry, a heavyweight boxer who fought Muhammad Ali and Floyd Patterson, but suffered severe brain damage from his years in the ring, died yesterday. He was 53.

Mr. Quarry had been hospitalized Dec. 28 with pneumonia, and he suffered cardiac arrest. His family directed that he be removed from life support after consultation with doctors.
