"I'm groggy from napping," warns Warren Zevon, picking up the telephone from a hotel somewhere on the East Coast. "So I don't have that `banter' that you can always tell I wrote just before we talk.

"I don't have anything to sell," he says, coming right to the point of why virtually anyone in the entertainment business talks to anyone in the media. True. His solo concert tomorrow night at the Paradise (with guest Amy Rigby) is already sold out. He has no new record in the shops or one on the way. He has no recording contract. Does he intend to have one?
