On tapes, JFK takes some blame for 1963 coup in South Vietnam

In the largest batch of recordings it has yet released, the John
F. Kennedy Library yesterday made public 37 hours of tapes in which
President Kennedy conceded that his administration must bear some
responsibility for the assassination of South Vietnam President Ngo
Dinh Diem.
One reason for that conclusion, in Kennedy's view, was a cable
sent to South Vietnam in August 1963 that appeared to give tacit US
approval for a coup against Diem.
