Teamsters elect James Hoffa as leader New union president is following in footsteps of famous father who led workers from 1957 to 1971

Forty-one years after his father became president of the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters, James P. Hoffa was elected to
the same post last week by a substantial margin.
"We're going to see a new militancy of the Teamsters in our
negotiations," the 57-year-old Detroit labor lawyer said on the NBC
news show "Meet the Press."
Hoffa also pledged to return the 1.4 million-member labor
organization to its glory days -- a difficult promise for a union
faced with declining membership, dwindling funds, and scandal.
