Bank of New England reaches accord with FDIC
|
A bankruptcy trustee for Bank of New England Corp. yesterday
reached a tentative settlement with federal regulators that would pay
$140 million to creditors of the failed banking company.
The settlement with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. still must
be approved by the FDIC's board and US Bankruptcy Court Judge William
C. Hillman. A lawyer representing regulators said the FDIC hopes to
gain board approval next month.
Regulators seized Bank of New England on Jan. 6, 1991, marking the
largest-ever bank failure in New England. The company's list of
creditors was dominated by bond investors ...
