Two opportunities loom large for minorities across the Commonwealth if they are to have any impact on the direction of state politics into the next millennium.

The first is today, when Democrats statewide convene to select delegates for their party's nominating convention. The second is the period between Feb. 21 and March 14, when GOP caucuses will convene.

The caucus gatherings are important because they represent the nuts and bolts of state party politics -- where aspirants for governor, secretary of state, treasurer, and other offices vie for cachet and grass-roots support. The caucuses ...
