The story of the Head of the Charles can be glimpsed in its
numbers -- 32 years, 19 events, 300,000 spectators, 5,600 rowers.
But nowhere on the regatta's fact sheet will you find the Roman
numeral that has indirectly but decisively put hundreds of women on
the river this weekend: Title IX.
"At Kansas State, there's no bones about why they got started in
