Gannett to buy TV stations in Bangor and Portland, Maine Properties to be divested by family-controlled firm

Gannett Co., the Virginia-based media giant, said yesterday it
plans to acquire WCSH-TV (Ch. 6) in Portland, Maine, and WLBZ-TV (Ch.
2) in Bangor from the Maine Broadcasting System.
The acquisition would effectively end the Maine broadcasting
presence of a family that started its first radio station in 1925 and
has been operating either radio or TV stations in the state ever
since.
The Maine Broadcasting System describes itself as one of the few
family-controlled media companies ...
