Dario Fo, a 71-year-old Italian actor-playwright whose irreverent comedy has drawn the ire of the Vatican and whose radical politics caused the US government to deny him a visa in 1980, won the 1997 Nobel Prize in Literature, it was announced yesterday in Stockholm.
