Call their musical allegiance a happening instead of a band and the members of Gus Gus would probably consider that a gushing compliment.

Gus Gus seemed to just evolve, a music-and-film collective that congealed out of a clique of friends immersed in the fertile Icelandic arts scene.

Baldur Stefansson, goateed, charismatic, silver-tongued in both Icelandic and English, is the band's onstage manager but he will not be at the helm when Gus Gus cruises into Axis Thursday for its first Boston performance.
