Berliners regretfully awoke from the magic of a fortnight-long midsummer night's dream today as steeplejacks began striking the German capital's greatest show since the Wall came down: Christo's wrapping of the Reichstag.

Kitsch or art, the shrouding of the history-laden hulk of Germany's Parliament building turned out to be what one wit called "Reichstock" -- in Germanic homage to Woodstock, but without the original's drugs, mud or chaos.
