Agnes Marathas, 96 Former owner of Canton market

Agnes (Chohonis) Marathas of Canton died yesterday at the Hellenic
Nursing Home in Canton. She was 96.
Born in Sparta, Greece, she moved to Lowell in 1913 with her late
brother, Peter, at the age of 13 and began working in Lowell textile
mills.
After marrying her late husband, James, she moved to Canton in
1928 and opened the Athens Cash Market on Bolivar Street.
She was naturalized as a US citizen on Oct. 8, 1945.
