HALLANDALE, Fla. -- Captain Bodgit stole the thunder from Pulpit yesterday, roaring down the stretch to capture the $500,000 Florida Derby and throw the Kentucky Derby watch into an uproar.

Pulpit, formerly undefeated and the 2-5 choice, ran well under Shane Sellers to finish second, but he was no match for Captain Bodgit, who authored a bold move around the far turn with Alex Solis, coming from sixth place to prevail by 2 1/2 lengths at 7-2.
