Boston says bonjour to Radio France
|
Each morning from 7 to 9, when Charlestown-based WBPS (690 AM)
broadcasts Radio France Internationale live from Paris, general
manager Patrice Donley hardly understands a word of it. But what
does speak loud and clear to the radio executive is the tremendous
response to the French language news program in Boston.
Because RFI has only been airing Monday through Saturday since
Dec. 2, it's too early to gauge the long-term impact of the Parisian
import. But it has struck a chord in Boston's French-speaking
population, estimated to be about 100,000.
