The violinist Josef Suk stands in a proud musical lineage. His great-grandfather was Dvorak, and his grandfather, also named Josef Suk, was an important Czech composer of a later generation; Suk's Second Symphony, "Asrael," stands as one of the major orchestral works composed in the early years of this century.

Suk, 67, is one of today's master musicians, although his career in America has been limited. He made his Boston Symphony debut in 1994 playing Brahms' Double Concerto with Yo-Yo Ma; at that time he was probably the most important international musician who had never appeared with the ...
