Has punk rock become akin to a mutant version of the blues?

You know, the grizzled geezers of the older generation passes down the genre's traditions to the young-uns, as everyone gathers around the bonfire. In punk's case, of course, these might be things like being loud and abrasive, dropping your trousers onstage, cracking nasty jokes, castigating yourself and your audience, and embracing the idea that confrontation is part of the job.
