Informed musicians consider Roger Sessions (1896-1985) America's
greatest composer of symphonies, but this is not a fact that anyone
could gather from studying the programs of American orchestras.
Several of Sessions' 9 symphonies were given prestigious send-offs,
but they have not entered the repertory, although the composer was
confident that they would one day, and rightly so. This important
new CD by the American Composers Orchestra may help hasten the
