Train door monitors take final journey on Blue Line

Yesterday the MBTA's Blue Line said goodbye to its guards.

Guards, who monitor the opening and closing of doors, are considered luxuries on the Blue Line's 142-foot trains, which are less than half the size of Red Line trains.

So, after a bitter fight in which some legislators even tried to save their jobs, the 29 Blue Line guards were eliminated by T management.

Their final trip was last night. At 5:13 this morning, the first train without the guards was scheduled to roll.
