Clinton vetoes bill to fund Congress President calls on lawmakers to deal with `people's business,' then their own
|
WASHINGTON -- President Clinton yesterday vetoed a bill that provides $2.2 billion for congressional staffs and offices, and told Congress he will not approve the money for 1996 until the lawmakers make more progress in enacting a budget for the rest of the government.
"It would be inappropriate to provide full-year regular funding for Congress and its offices while funding for most other activities of government remains incomplete, unresolved and uncertain," Clinton said in his veto message.
