Goddess groupies: not so divine

Francine Prose's ninth and latest novel, "Hunters and Gatherers," is about the goddess movement and, like much of her work, it has a satirical edge.

Prose says she didn't intend to make fun of goddess spirituality, a belief system that combines feminism, mysticism and environmentalism, but she knows some women may not see it that way. "My editor has promised I can go into the witness protection program," she joked during an appearance Monday night at the Brookline Booksmith.
