LENOX -- There is nothing in classical music quite like Yo-Yo Ma
playing his cello. He will bound onto the stage, take his seat, lean
back into the orchestra (or smaller chamber group) and shine what
must be the world's most beatific smile at his colleagues.
It is almost as if he is delivering a blessing, except that it is
a moment that breaks, rather than announces, the solemnity of the
occasion. But it is a communal moment. It seems to say to the other
musicians, "Here we are again, together, doing what we love to do."
