Federal bank regulators are scrutinizing Fleet Financial Group
Inc.'s minority lending practices as the company seeks approval to
buy Shawmut National Corp.
The US Comptroller of the Currency, which has been vigilant in
pressuring Fleet to correct past charges of loan discrimination, is
conducting a full examination of Fleet's banks in Massachusetts,
Connecticut and Rhode Island. The exams are being done under the
