SJC backs use of DNA evidence
|
The state Supreme Judicial Court yesterday approved the use of DNA
evidence in crimimal trials for the first time, after concluding that
the results of so-called "genetic fingerprinting" can be reliably
interpreted.
The ruling means Massachusetts will join 48 other states in
accepting some form of DNA evidence, which is considered the most
significant advancement in forensic science since fingerprinting came
into regular use early this century.
