Benjamin Maleson doesn't care where we begin our mushroom hunt.
We rendezvous in Belmont because of its access to Routes 2 and 128,
so he, the photographer and I can head north easily. Maleson moves
some baskets around and we pile into his beat-up van, which carries
some of yesterday's mushrooms and their musky, earthy odor. Even
though it's a chilly fall day, the van's air conditioning is on full
