The flowering art of Fisher, Fort Point community

Anthony Fisher's favorite subject these days is an ordinary philodendron in an equally mundane pot. In Fisher's drawings and paintings, though, the houseplant is elevated to the status of icon. Pushed close to the edge of the picture plane, the plant has an urgent, aggressive quality.

It's a pity Fisher's work isn't in the Museum of Fine Arts' current "Grand Illusions: Four Centuries of Still-Life Painting," but there is a place where you can see it this weekend -- in the Fort Point Arts Community's 15th Annual Open Studios.
