Governor: House tax cuts a fraud

An unusually tart-tongued Gov. Weld charged yesterday that House Democrats perpetrated not only a "fraud" but also violated the state constitution when they reworked $200 million in GOP tax cuts on Monday so members could vote in favor of them but ensure they never actually take effect.

"I think what the House did is ridiculous," Weld said. "It's a complete phony. They obviously intend to take the tax cuts away after Election Day. I don't know how stupid they think {voters} are, but I don't think people are that stupid."
