Teen-age girl drowns in Lynn's Flax Pond Mother watched helplessly from shore

A Lynn teen-ager drowned last night at Flax Pond as her mother,
who cannot swim, watched helplessly. In another of the weekend's
numerous tragedies, a Peabody man on a canoe excursion at Bartholomew
Pond also drowned.
The body of Scarlett Diaz, 15, was found in about 12 feet of water
at the Lynn pond, where she drowned about 20 feet from shore.
Despite rescue workers' efforts to resuscitate Diaz, she was
pronounced dead upon arrival at Union Hospital at 4:18 p.m.
