Salk group says vaccine tends to slow AIDS virus spread

BERLIN -- Preliminary study results of a vaccine for people infected with the AIDS virus showed some slowing of viral activity after a year, a group of researchers, including the polio vaccine developer Jonas Salk, reported with fanfare yesterday.

But other scientists at the Ninth International Conference on AIDS immediately cautioned against premature excitement about the vaccine.
