Amos Niven Wilder, 97; author, poet, Harvard Divinity professor

Amos Niven Wilder, poet, author, professor of divinity emeritus at Harvard Divinty School, and brother of the late Thornton Wilder, died Saturday of cancer. He was 97.

Professor Wilder came to Harvard in 1954 as a teacher of the New Testament after 11 years at the Chicago Theological Seminary and the Federated Theological Faculty of the University of Chicago. He had taught previously at Hamilton College and the Andover Newton Theological School.

He was born in Madison, Wis, and was a resident of Blue Hill, Maine, for many years.
