Abbey launches proxy fight for Lifetime

Abbey Healthcare Group, Inc., borrowing another page from the 1980s takeover playbook, yesterday launched a proxy fight for control of Boston's Lifetime Corp.

Four days after withdrawing its $261.3 million, $27.50-per share proposal to take over Lifetime, saying Lifetime's board of directors "steadfastly refuses to meet with our representatives," Abbey proposed to throw out Anthony H. Reeves, Lifetime's chairman, chief executive and co-founder.
