Alexandria, Arlington Crime Dips; Larcenies Send Rate Up 17 Percent in Falls Church

The number of major crimes reported to Alexandria police dropped 12 percent last year, giving the city its lowest crime rate in 25 years.

In Alexandria and Arlington, crime patterns are leveling after a surge during the 1980s. Overall, the number of reported major crimes fell 1 percent last year in Arlington, to the lowest level since 1989. But crime rose 17 percent in smaller Falls Church because of an increase in larcenies.
