A Russian warrior culture revives
|
VOSTOV-ON-DON, Russia -- The meeting of the Cossacks of Rostov was
in full swing, everybody grumbling and shouting obscenities about the
Chechens, the Communists, the refugee "scum" from the Caucasus, when
a diverting proposal came from the floor.
Some local Cossacks were being tormented by a new businessman
working on gas pipes in their building. "I propose that we send a
column of 10 armed Cossacks over there to deal with this guy,"
screamed the Cossack who was telling the story.
