John N. Beebe, sonar engineer with the Raytheon Co. for 44 years, died of emphysema Saturday at his home in Eugene, Ore. He was 73.

Mr. Beebe retired in 1986 from Raytheon's submarine signal division in Portsmouth, R.I. Previously, he had worked for the defense contractor in Massachusetts and California.
