High expectations accompanied Monick Foote to college last
September, when she arrived at Virginia as the national girls
basketball player of the year. But Foote also arrived with the
reputation of a player who makes uncompromising demands of herself.
Her mother, Bobbie, wouldn't have it any other way.
Foote was 14 and playing for the Philadelphia Belles Amateur
Athletic Union team when she came across a play she just couldn't
master. She was to receive a pass after cutting to the corner, and
then shoot a jumper. She missed the shot three straight times,
leaving her mother disgusted.
