"IVAN THE TERRIBLE"
choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich and performed last night
by the Bolshoi Balle.
At: Wang Center for the Performing Arts, where the company
dances through September 13.
"Ivan the Terrible" is a terrible ballet -- a ballet for people
who prefer spectacle to steps. It's second-rate spectacle, at that,
and was sloppily danced last night. Which is too bad, since this
was the opening performance of the Bolshoi's first visit to Boston
since 1967. Balletomanes who remember the thrilling spirit of the
old "Stars of the Bolshoi" tours of the '60's will be ...
