The recent confessions by an archbishop and a priest in Atlanta that they had affairs with a female lay minister have further fueled the debate over the Roman Catholic Church's celibacy rule.

"The situation speaks far more to a failure of the system then a failure of these men," said Frank Bonnike of Illinois, a former priest who is now married and a member of the board of Corpus, a national organization that opposes the celibacy rule.
