ADM. ALFREDO POVEDA ENDED JUNTA'S REIGN IN ECUADOR

QUITO, Ecuador - Retired Admiral Alfredo Poveda, who led a military junta that ruled Ecuador from 1976 until it turned over power to a civilian government in 1979, died of a heart attack last week in Miami, his family said. He was 64.

Adm. Poveda had traveled to Miami for medical treatment, his family said. He died Thursday, and his family said the body was flown to the port of Guayaquil, where a funeral with military honors was scheduled.
