Sarah Vaughan died Tuesday at age 66 of lung cancer. If Ella Fitzgerald is The First Lady of Jazz, then Miss Vaughan was that music's Grand Diva.

Miss Vaughan, who was endowed with the sobriquets "The Divine One" and "Sassy," was so self-confident -- and with justification -- that she did not merely sing songs, she challenged them.
