STUDY FINDS 12% SUCCESS FOR IN VITRO FERTILIZATION

Women undergoing in vitro fertilization at US clinics had about a 12 percent chance per attempt last year at conceiving and delivering a baby, according to figures being leased today by the American Fertility Society.

This average success rate was about what it has been in recent years, based on results reported to a national registry by 135 clinics.

Despite research aimed at improving the so-called "test tube baby" treatment for infertility, the success rates "are not really changing that much," said Dr. David Meldrum, president of the Society for Assisted Reproduction Technology, ...
