Is Boston's big tea kettle about to run out of steam?
The Steaming Kettle Coffee Shop -- a rush-hour relic of the
days before Au Bon Pain, Rebecca's and the like began serving
breakfast and lunch to the eat-and-run crowd around Government
Center, is up for sale.
Included in the purchase price, most likely, will be the
oldest original animated trade sign in the United States -- the
gilded copper kettle, puffing around the clock above the doorway,
with the inscription, "Capacity 227 Gallons 2 Quarts 1 Pint 3
Gills."
