SANDWICH GRAPPLES WITH GROWTH

SANDWICH - Suburbia has reached Cape Cod. So, too, have
thorny suburban problems.
Such problems -- development pressures, environmental threats,
soaring taxes for services -- are being felt at least as far down
the Cape as Dennis and Yarmouth, but most acutely here, just over
the Sagamore Bridge off Exit 2 on Route 6.
Its year-round population has grown to about 16,000, and
though that figure almost doubles in summer, Sandwich -- 58 miles
from Boston -- is still more of a suburb and less of a resort
community than any other town on the Cape, statistics show. Truro,
