Tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at the Boston Public Library, it's Betty
Grable's turn in the free Betty Grable-Alice Faye series through
Aug. 21. The film is "Coney Island" (1943). It's not one of the
films that made her World War II's bathing-suited GI pinup queen,
taped and tacked to vertical surfaces from Southampton to Sarawak.
This one, directed by Walter Lang, is a turn-of-the-century period
piece, and if you can stand the sight of Grable heavily costumed,
it's fun. In it, saloon entertainer Grable is hustled to musical
