WEST CHESTERFIELD - Judy Scanlan and her husband Jerry, both 49, live on a farm, but you won't find cows in the field or pigs out next to the barn. Instead, nearly 500 Targhee sheep live on this 700-acre hilltop plot making the flock one of the largest in the state.

One group of ewes wanders in a pasture behind the house overlooking southeastern Vermont and the Haystack, Mount Snow and Stratton ski areas.
