Residents of far-northern New England able to receive Canadian television channels are likely to be observers of the kind of solid political debating that was not provided by the two debates between George Bush and Governor Dukakis.

Canada being officially bilingual, the debate among Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and his two principal challengers, Liberal leader John Turner and New Democratic Party leader Edward Broadbent, will be a two-night affair -- three hours each night. Last night the debate was conducted in French; tonight it will be in English.
