As operas by 17-year-old composers go, "Des Teufels Lustschloss"
("The Devil's Pleasure-Dome"), is quite an achievement. Of course
Mozart composed his first opera at 12, but it wasn't nearly as
ambitious an effort as Schubert's "Des Teufels Lustschloss."
The young Schubert apparently composed the opera as a surprise
for his teacher Antonio Salieri (yes, that one); Salieri made some
criticisms and suggestions, so Schubert rewrote the work
