Some of Ellsworth Kelly's small sculptures and a large musical installation by Paul Matisse share more than a Cambridge location: Both foster a mood of quiet contemplation. Both also make a strong case for pure, refined, ungimmicky art, and both have a spiritual side.

"Ellsworth Kelly: Small Sculpture 1958 -- 87," at The List Visual Arts Center at MIT through March 27, was designed as a companion to recent shows of Kelly's paintings and works on paper at the Museum of Fine Arts.
