PARILLI VENTURES INTO NEW ARENA HE'S EXPECTING SUCCESS WITH STEAMROLLERS

Vito (Babe) Parilli, like Ted (The Splendid Splinter) Williams and Arnold (Red) Auerbach, has outgrown his nickname.

The wrinkled and graying 57-year-old Parilli, introduced yesterday as the coach of the Arena Football New England Steamrollers, no longer is a babe.

"Suitcase" might be a more appropriate nickname, considering this is his sixth football league and 11th team affiliation.

Parilli was given a one-year contract, which might be considered a lifetime contract if the indoor game doesn't capture the imagination of New England football fans.
