Joseph R. Hendrick III, the country's largest car dealer, has
spent millions to sponsor stock car racers, start basketball teams
and buy jet airplanes. Yesterday, the government said he also used
his money in a conspiracy that involved bribery, money laundering
and mail fraud.
A federal grand jury in Asheville, N.C., indicted Hendrick,
47, who is known as "Rick," on charges of bribing former executives
of American Honda Motor Co. for more than 10 years to get more Honda
