CRUCIAL DECISIONS IMMINENT ON US SPACE STATION

Development of the US space station, planned as the keystone of the nation's space program for the next decade, is facing its most critical period since President Reagan made it a national priority in his 1984 State of the Union address.

Within the next few weeks, budget appropriations to begin construction of the station will be set, contracts for all the major components will be awarded and international agreements for the construction of station components may be signed.
